Title: Back at One
Artiste: Rooftop MCs
Category: Gospel

BACK At One is rare anniversary gift to fans and critics of the Rooftops MCs. The duo (So Kleva and Soul Snatcha) recently offered this 20-track album as a token appreciation for ten years on the music scene. The tunes are familiar but you just have to fall in love with the playful lyrics (mostly blended with Yoruba nudgets and pidgin) and superb sound.

In the hit track, Back at One, they tell you ‘Every time I walk away, I’m back at one’. Fire ft. Riola, a simple lively gig song makes you wanna dance and flap your wings. Fly Away is a brilliant piece you’d leave on repeat! Get High ft. JC Qrew brings you the Raggae feel. Jamala makes you laugh and dance while Gimme Space is a hilarious warning to the naughty pal on the dance floor who attempts to ‘touch’ you amidst frenzied dance. Others are My Life, Moni, One Song, Onifoto, On da Rooftop Sitting, On Fire, Take it Slow (my favourite!), and One Song (Remix) featuring Pasuma’s stand-out vocals. The scratches of DJ X-EL, Rooftop MCs’ official DJ, round off the journey in Verse by Verse, inserting a short clip from a sermon by their pastor, Poju Oyemade.

This album parades a stunning array of performances while still retaining the Rooftop rock and rap staple. It deserves thumbs up.
