“The burden of Dumah. He calleth to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night? The watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night: if ye will enquire, enquire ye: return, come.” –Isaiah 21:11-12

“My head is ringing!” was a cliché that I regularly spilled out of my mouth in 2007. My head rang so many times that year because I found myself thinking a lot (worrying would be more like it) The last few weeks of the year were quite interesting because I came to know so many things that rang the bell in my head at some mega decibels than ever before. Thank God school was not in session. The year 2007 gave me some pleasant surprises, but also got me thinking and developing ideas that were seemingly strange and sounded really stupid, unwise (foolish, to be more direct), and/or irrational to several people. (Please, don’t ask me what the ideas were.)

I’m still not certain of all what the future holds, and I know I’m not alone. Look around and you see many ‘stars’ and achievers who went from zero to hero and you wonder how they ever made such giant leaps. Surely, at some point in their lives, some of these achievers must have had their heads ringing too, about what the future held for them. Imagine what Pastor E.A. Adeboye would have been thinking about his future when he was still a kid and would just move around barefooted because he could not afford a modest pair of sandal. Or, how clear Matthew Ashimolowo was about his future even when he was 21; did he envisage this magnitude of success? How many books had he read or even come across at that time (by 2007 he had built a library of several thousands of books and had even written at least 71. ‘What is Wrong with Being Black?’ was the first part of a material that took him seven years of intensive research.

I Corinthians 2:9 speaks expressly to us that eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things that God has prepared for them that love Him. The next verse continues, “But God hath revealed them to us by His Spirit; for the Spirit searcheth all things, even the deep things of God”. Pay more attention to Isaiah 21:11 and you discover that it also confirms the fact that we need the Holy Spirit to reveal to us time after time, what tomorrow holds for us. You get anxious or worried about what will become of you tomorrow and ask the watchman, “What of the night?” He says to you, “See, there’s the beginning and then the end… If you want to know anything, you got to come and ask me regularly!” I guess he figured you are not likely to understand the whole big picture all at once. You’re at best a spirit being that’s got a soul and lives in a body. After all, if you got every single detail about your life figured out from start, that removes half the fun out of it. Ain’t it? 🙂

It’s very important that we learn to seek the face of God in all we do. We should be tuned to the right frequency so that we can hear the Lord distinctly whenever he instructs or speaks to us. He speaks to man in diverse; discover those ways by which He speaks to you. You should not worry about how the big picture will eventually be completed because Ephesians 3:20 tells us that God is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.

In the first chapter of Joshua, four different times, God instructed the successor to His servant Moses to ‘be strong and of good courage’. What lays ahead in the coming months and next year remains rather vague to many of us, but God has called us to take more territories for Him, more than we can do alone. You just need to be strong and be of good courage; always seeking His specific instructions for each new move, step and direction in the journey. I can sense it strongly; God is seriously calling us to expand both in thinking and taking progressive actions this time around. Remember, He would not give you projects you alone can achieve; it has got to be so tasking you have to depend on Him. He is not a slave master; and it’s for your own good. You may need to consult Jabez. Reach out to conquer more territories in the coming months and the New Year!
